Mental Health in a Changing World
~by Mr. Aashray Thatai (Director, FA Home And Apparel Private Limited)

In the hustle and bustle of our rapidly changing world, one aspect that deserves our undivided attention is our mental health. Regardless of age or background, we can all benefit from understanding and practicing psychological first aid to safeguard our well-being. With over 7000 employees from diverse age groups and backgrounds under FA leadership, I’ve witnessed firsthand the importance of this universal concern.
The ever-changing landscape of our world is undeniable. Technology has revolutionised the way we live, work and connect with one another. While this transformation offers countless opportunities, it also ushers in its own set of challenges. People of all ages are now navigating this complex terrain, dealing with academic pressures, career aspirations, social media, and societal expectations. It's no wonder that mental health issues are on the rise. In this blog, I aim to shed light on strategies and insights, drawn from personal experience, that can help everyone protect and enhance their mental well-being in our rapidly evolving world.
Just as we learn basic first aid to address physical injuries, understanding and practicing psychological first aid can be instrumental in dealing with mental health challenges. Here are five techniques that people can adopt:
Self-awareness
The first step to mental well-being is self-awareness. Take the time to understand your emotions, triggers, and stressors. Journaling, meditation, or mindfulness exercises can help you gain insight into your emotional landscape.
Build a Support Network
You don’t have to go through tough times alone. Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, and mentors who can provide a listening ear and valuable guidance. Don’t hesitate to reach out to professionals if needed.
Digital Detox
In today’s digital age, it’s essential to disconnect occasionally. Set boundaries for screen time, especially on social media. Remember that curated online personas often don’t reflect reality, and comparing yourself to others can be detrimental to your mental
health.
Physical Well-being
A healthy body supports a healthy mind. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are the cornerstones of mental well-being. Prioritize your physical health to boost your resilience against stress.
Goal Setting and Time Management
Break down your goals into manageable steps and create a realistic timeline. Effective time management reduces the pressure of deadlines and allows you to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Seek Professional Help When Necessary
There is no shame in seeking professional help when facing mental health challenges. Mental health professionals, therapists, and
counsellors are trained to provide support and guidance tailored to your specific needs.
Practice Gratitude
Cultivate a habit of gratitude. Reflect on the positive aspects of your life and acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small. Gratitude can help shift your focus away from stressors and improve your overall outlook.
In my journey from Business Development & Strategy Manager to Director, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of these techniques in the lives of our employees. Remember that mental health is a continuous journey, and as a society, we must foster an environment of openness, empathy and understanding when it comes to mental health. By equipping people with psychological first aid tools and nurturing their well-being, we can empower them to thrive in this ever-changing world.
Make mental health a priority for your own sake and for the brighter future it promises for
generations to come.
